About the Self-Management Education Working Group:

As a coalition, the OA Action Alliance undertakes its work through four working groups comprised of volunteers who are members of concerned organizations in the public health community. These working groups are based on the four primary recommendations outlined in A National Public Health Agenda for Osteoarthritis. The areas addressed are injury prevention, physical activity, self-management education and weight management.

New Direction for SME Work Group

The Self-Management Education Work Group has joined forces with the Self-Management Alliance of the National Council on Aging (NCOA). The NCOA’s Self-Management Alliance has created a Voluntary Health Organization (VHO) Advisory Group to allow for greater input from patients and better coordination of its activities with various patient groups. Individual members of the self-management education work group, along with the Arthritis Foundation, and other prominent voluntary health organizations have decided to join this Advisory Group to leverage our collective efforts to accomplish the common goal of increasing access to self-management education and resources to all people with chronic conditions.

The OAAA would like to thank the Self-Management Education Work Group for their active participation and involvement and look forward to continuing to work with them in this new collaboration.
